Technology also helps us to maintain efficiency, or to gain efficiency, whether it's in our daily lives or from a business-led perspective. Free software such as Trello boards and Freedcamp help us keep track of to-do lists or manage projects within a team. These are free, open source software which don’t require monthly fee subscriptions and can work essentially the same as proprietary software does, however a toned down version with limitations. If we’re dealing with a startup company then this is a perfect, cost-effective alternative compared to proprietary software. A proprietary version of Trello boards is JIRA, developed by Atlassian, which provides for more detailed operations to be managed by a larger team. It also ensures that you can manage your projects effectively and efficiently and be able to collaborate on teams and to invite people to see your progress. We're also able to assign tasks and keep up to date with what we need to pursue. We can have a glance at a board and understand what projects are outstanding, and which stage of project delivery is blocking the project from progressing. Software such as Grammarly helps us write an email, academic essay or any notes with punctuation and grammar in mind. It assesses the written content and provides proper suggestions which work better in the context in which it is written.

We're able to have applications such as Alexa and Google Home, at our disposal to give us information as and when required. These systems require a data connection and allow us to stream music, ask questions, play music and a host of other new innovative features which before existed only in our imaginations. The innovation of e-books has certainly spiked during the lockdowns that we've experienced. Ebooks have allowed us to read books online, on Kindles or locally without having to buy physical hardback copies of books and go out of the comfort of your home. Audiobooks have invited a new audience into the realm of reading and expanding one's knowledge, whether the individual chooses to read for pleasure or for information. An audiobook can be as effective as an actual hardcopy book, depending on the user's attention to detail, ability to multitask or on the other simultaneous activities the user is involved with.

An audiobook can be thought of as a snapshot or picture of what you read, which is then stored in your memory with the right amount of attention, however reading a physical book can be described as a layered paining which involved many coatings and layers, thus approximating in depth knowledge around the event or phenomenon being described. Platforms such as Audible, Spotify and YouTube Music have enabled us to listen to audiobooks online or purchase them. They allow us to listen to more books than we would have, if we hadn’t had these diversified platforms. Many of us would choose to listen to audiobooks as opposed to reading books. It requires a bit less discipline in some regard, yet it still has the same overall effect as a book.
